Seoul, Korea- The Rice Cultural Festival, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, will be held from October 21 to 24 in Icheon, a town known for its rice.

The reason for the popularity of Icheon rice is its excellent taste due to getting lots of sunshine. Icheon rice has high mineral content thanks to the nature of the terrain in the area.

The main attractions of the festival are an iron pot of rice containing 2,000 servings and a rice cake that stretches for over 600 meters.


Also, there is a rice cooking competition hosted by the government, in which the best rice chef will be chosen.

In addition, there are lots of ways to experience the rich farming culture of the area through programs such as harvesting, a thanksgiving rite, foreigner talent shows, harvest songs, harvest plays, rites celebrating the tutelary spirits of abundant crops and new rice, sedan-chair fights, mock stone-throwing fights, the turtle game, and other traditional rural activities.

The mayor of Icheon says, “You can purchase newly harvested Icheon rice at a very affordable price and enjoy abundant food and many attractions. This festival will be a abundant festival to showcase our traditional farming culture.”
