Myeong-dong Chungmuro 1-ga renovated


Seoul, Korea – The streets of Myeong-dong, one of Seoul¡¯s most popular tourist shopping areas, are in the final stages of renovation.

The City of Seoul began a four-part Myeong-dong Renovation Project in October 2006 and completed the third stage of the project in April this year.

The remaining final stage targets four specific areas, the first two of which were completed on June 8. Renovation of the third area, which is Chungmuro, began on the 9th.

Chungmuro is expected to be completed by late July. The renovation work includes not only repaving the street with stone slabs but will improving infrastructure for electricity, communications, natural gas, sewage, and drainage. Chungmuro is getting a full face-lift, turning it into a friendlier, more streamlined area.

With the completion of the fourth stage of renovation, the Myeong-dong Renovation Project, four laborious years in the making, will be come to an end.

Seoul City CBD Revitalization Policy Chief Byung Ha Kim announced on the 8th, ¡°The completion in July of the Myeong-dong Renovation Project will mark the rebirth of Myeong-dong as a refreshing, pedestrian-friendly shopping environment. It will boost local business by attracting both international and domestic tourists.
