Seoul adds more sports facilities in Han River parks

Seoul, Korea – July 9. Seoul has added such sports facilities as urethane-coated basketball courts at seven different Han River parks, including Gwangnaru, for the enjoyment of locals who visit to break a light sweat with some exercise.

At Gwangnaru Han River Park¡¯s Mongchon Crossroads physical fitness area for example, the foot massager and the sit-up panel board have been removed, and 12 new pieces of exercise equipment of 11 different types have been installed. including a machine for lower-body warmup, a chinup bar, and a cycle that works out the whole body.

At the Gwangnaru Inline-Skating Area, the city has installed light-reflecting wooden fences to prevent skater-pedestrian collisions, which are particularly likely to happen in the dark. The soccer field now has a newly installed fence to keep the ball getting kicked over into the bicycle lane and causing injuries.

Mangwon Han River Park, where the basketball courts were once paved with sandy clay, now has shock-absorbent assembly-tiled courts with four new backboards. Now people from the area can play basketball safely under better conditions.

An official from Seoul City Hall explained on the 17th, ¡°We understand that there has been a big increase in the number of people who wish to stroll around or exercise in the Han River parks, and to best accommodate those interests, we have supplemented and expanded the available sports equipment and facilities. We will continue to maintain them to ensure that our citizens can benefit from convenient park facilities.¡±
