Choi Soo Jong cast in lead role of KBS¡¯s President
Choi will play the Korean Obama in a series set to air in the current Fugitive slot.
Seoul, Korea – Actor Choi Soo Jong, who showed off his acting prowess in the drama series Comrades, has been cast in KBS 2TV¡¯s new series, President (written by Son Yeong Mok and directed by Kim Hyung Il) which will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
According to a source in the drama¡¯s production staff, it was confirmed that Choi was cast in the role on August 24. The actor will be playing the role of Jang Il Joon, the lead in the series, and the first episode will air on December 8.
The character Jang Il Joon is from an average family and his parents are ordinary educators. Jang has a gifted intellect that places him in a prestigious university school of law. He was an active participant in student movements during the Yushin Regime, which embroiled him in the most important event in his life, instilling in him new ambitions.
To make a long story short, Jang will be the Korean interpretation of Obama or at least remind viewers of the US president¡¯s life. Jang has his roots as a human-rights attorney who becomes a third-string man in the national assembly, alleviating discord between social strata, and when he feels that the nation must change, he decides to run for president.
Also the pen behind The Iron Empress, screenwriter Son Yeong Mok is preparing the script for President. The series will cover the story line from Jang Il Joon¡¯s campaign to his entering office. The series will replace Fugitive, starring Rain and Lee Na Young.
