Twenty-two bridges of the Han River light up Seoul¡¯s nights

Seoul, Korea – Now you can experience the nightscape at more bridges over the Han River.

As part of the government¡¯s energy conservation program, beginning in July of 2008, only 12 of the 24 bridges over the Han River were lit up from 15 minutes after sunset to 11:00 p.m. The 12 bridges are the Olympic Bridge, Cheongdam Bridge, Yeongdong Bridge, Seongsu Bridge, Dongho Bridge, Hannam Bridge, Banpo Bridge, Hangang Bridge, Wonhyo Bridge, Gayang Bridge, Seongsan Bridge, and Dangsan Railroad Bridge. Now however, as part of its effort to promote the beauty of the Han River, the City of Seoul plans to add light up 10 more bridges at night from September 6 until January 31, 2011. The 10 bridges are the Mapo Bridge, Jamsil Railroad Bridge, Gwangjin Bridge, Dongjak Bridge, Haengju Bridge, Achasan Bridge, Seoho Bridge, Dumo Bridge, and Noryang Bridge.

The plan to add more lights was decided on in a meeting between the Seoul Energy Conservation Committee and the Seoul Design Committee on August 18. The main topic of discussion was the need to improve the image of Seoul by making the nightscape more beautiful by adding lighting to each of the bridges on the Han River.

The city plans to incorporate the advice of professionals and ordinary citizens about the best ways to keep the quality of the lighting consistent so that the Han River can hold its spot as a beautiful tourist attraction, one of the best Seoul has to offer.
