Safe driving education, how much do you know?

The new generation of actual experience in learning the importance of safe and environmental driving

On the 6th, the Transportation Safety Authority revealed that ¡°For those who took the safe driving education, their tendency to get into accidents decreased by 65.8% after 12 months¡±. This data is even more eye-catching because it proves that the education of the Green safety experience center provides for an excellent real life education for decreasing accidents.

This research was conducted through 2,137 drivers of buses, taxis and other business transportation, and it was shown that after the education, the number of accidents decreased by 210 incidents from the year before, 109 cases from 319 the year before. It was also shown that the number of serious injuries due to accidents was significantly reduced, by 66% (215 before education, 74 after).

The organization is anticipating an even further decreasing effect because of the results of countries who have done the experience education 25 years before Korea, countries such as Japan (Central Institute for Safe Driving 40.6%, and the Phil Crane Institute for Traffic Safety 58%), and France (Chateau Heu Driving Training Center 30-50% decrease) have experienced accident reduction, giving hope that through great effort, the present number will decrease the number of accidents as well.

The Green Safety Experience Center is built on a 300,000§³ grounds in Magong Township in Chungri-myun, Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and had 4,437 sutdents last year, with 5,713 students (5,096 safe driving students, 617 eco driving students) up to the end of August of this year.

The center has a high speed course, 8 outdoor facilities with 3D driving simulation facilities, and the educational theories have been substituted by actual experience in rainy and icy conditions where one can learn to avoid and drive safely through dangerous conditions, accentuating their own instincts in those situations.

The education curriculum is divided into the safe driving and eco driving for environmentally friendly driving courses. 12 courses are divided into regular courses (1 day 8 hours) and an intensive course (2 days 16 hours) depending on the industry and vehicular type. There is also a tailored course for those who want to choose the training time and course.

Also, it was shown that through the eco-drive course, there was a 14.29% decrease in the use of fuel.

The Transportation Safety Authority¡¯s professor of safety education Ha Sung Soo remarked ¡°We would like to continue to provide oppurtunities for drivers to get this education to minimize the loss of life and property, and the decrease of fuel usage¡±, adding ¡°we hope that the Green Safety Experiencing center of the Transportation Safety Authority will take the role of preventing accidents and instigator of the green society.¡±
