Actor Jeong Jin-yeong, who will star in Pyongyang Fortress, a sequel to Battle of Hwangsanbeol, will act as Alzheimer’s disease-afflicted “Kim Yu-shin.”

“Kim Yu-shin,” who turned into Silla’s hero in 2003’s Battle of Hwangsanbeol after destroying the Baekje Dynasty, seems to be afflicted by Alzheimer’s in 2011’s Pyongyang Fortress.

Actor Jeong, who plays Kim Yu-shin, introduced his role as a “Kim Yu-shin with Alzheimer’s” at the production briefing session held at the Lotte Cinema near Konkuk University subway station in Seoul.

Pyongyang Fortress is about the story of Silla Dynasty, after having swallowed Baekje and occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula, allying with Tang China to attack Goguryeo’s Pyongyang Fortress in an attempt to take over all of the Korean Peninsula.

In this movie, Jeong enthusiastically plays the role of Kim Yu-shin, who has weakened and was suffering from Alzheimer’s but who is still a brilliant strategist.

Jeong said, “Actors always have the desire to play new roles, so even if I am playing the same role, I want to approach the viewers with a different image.”

He also added, “I didn’t want to show his charismatic self and so I acted differently, but those scenes were edited out. You can expect a different Kim Yu-shin from that in the Battle of Hwangsanbeol.”

Lee Jun-ik’s fusion historical drama/comedy Pyongyang Fortress will premier on the 27th.
