[±Û·Î¹ú] Chuncheon International Mime Festival¡¯s Goblin Outdoor Market will be held at Lake Uiam
Seoul, Korea — The decision has been made to hold the Goblin Outdoor Market, a highlight of the Chuncheon International Mime Festival (art director Woo Jin Gyu), at Lake Uiam.
According to the staff of the festival, they conferred with ferry operators about holding the Goblin Outdoor Market on Jungdo, an island in Lake Uiam, but because of problems with the ferries and safety considerations, the talks broke down.
As a result, they had to choose between Nami Island, which is located on the border between Chuncheon and Gapyeong, and Subyeon Park at Lake Uiam. Because Nami Island is far from downtown Chuncheon, they decided on Subyeon Park on the 24th.
Subyeon Park was used as the site for the outdoor market in 2009 and 2010, but because it was small and lacked appeal for tourists from the Seoul area and there were problems with traffic control and insufficient facilities, the staff decided to look for a new location.
Jungdo was chosen as the ideal site, but because of problems with the ferry operators and fares and lack of support from the Gangwon provincial government, the city of Chuncheon, and the Gangwondo Development Corporation the organizers were unable to proceed with the plan to use Jungdo.
Director Woo says, ¡°To keep alive the tradition of holding the festival with the people of Chuncheon, the location of this year¡¯s Goblin Outdoor Market will be held in Subyeon Park. Jungdo Island is the ideal site for the Chuncheon International Mime Festival, so we are planning to discuss this issue with the provincial government and the city of Chuncheon.¡±
Chuncheon International Mime Festival will be held from the 22nd until the 29th of May and around ninety Korean and foreign troupes and performance groups, including Momzit, the Chuncheon Culture & Art Center, and Brown 5th Avenue, will participate.
