So Ji Sub contributes personal money to pay production cost
Seoul, Korea – Actor So Ji Sub is the talk of the town for having contributed about 100,000 dollars of his own money to pay production costs for the new MBC series Road No. 1, in which he plays the main character, Lee Jang Woo. His donation to the production costs came to light only recently.
So Ji Sub has shown his deep affection for the series, saying, ¡°This project will mark a turning point in my acting career.¡±
Road No. 1 is a huge production that will cost about 13 million dollars. It is a story about three people¡¯s love and friendship during the Korean War.
It is rare for an actor to pay production costs out of his own pocket. However, So Ji Sub has contributed personal funds to the production costs of his previous movies A Movie is Movie and Sophie¡¯s Manual.
So¡¯s agency, 51K, said, ¡°He donated money to the project so that it could have the best quality of execution without being tied down by costs. He didn¡¯t donate to be rewarded. That is why we didn¡¯t notify anyone but made the offer to the production company quietly.¡±
The cast of Road No. 1 includes Kim Ha Neul, Yun Gye Sang, Choi Min Soo, and Son Chang Min as well as So Ji Sub. The series debuted on June 23 and will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
