Lee Sang Gook¡¯s solo exhibition portrays life and scenery

Seoul, Korea — Lee Sang Gook¡¯s solo exhibition, which portrays our lives and scenery lyrically in an independent, abstract way, will be held in Gana Gallery in Seoul from the March 11 until April 3.

The solo exhibition will be showing Lee¡¯s oil paintings, which have been difficult to see because of his medical treatment and haven¡¯t been seen in ten years since his solo exhibition in 2000, and also will be a retrospective exhibition with the paintings and woodcuts he has been working on for 40 years since 1977.

In 1970s and 80s, he expressed the gloomy phases of life with hillside slums, factory districts, and mountains in the vicinity of Seoul as a motif, and in the 90s, he concentrated on natural scenery such as the mountains and the seas, preserving them in abstract forms.

The scenery and subjects, drawn through endless deconstruction and reconstruction, only exist on canvas as a basic skeleton without a specific form and show a sense of weakness from the deconstruction but also show a new atmosphere.
